The play was commended by Harold Pinter. Assistant Director at Theatre Royal, Northampton, where he directed:- ‘Day in the Death of Joe Egg’, by Peter Nichols ‘Right Honourable Gentleman’ by Michael Dyre ‘The Minister’s Mallard’, - a light-hearted farce, in which the author, Alan Melville, starred. Richmond Theatre, Surrey. Invited to direct a season of plays, considered one of their most successful seasons to date. Plays directed include:- ‘Spring and Port Wine’ ‘Look Back in Anger’ (Peter Gilmore) ‘The Italian Girl’ ‘Staircase’ (Frank Thornton) Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford Guest Director ‘The Holly and the Ivy’, starring Ann Rogers. Television Play - Writer ‘Two Feet off the Ground’. Produced by Yorkshire TV for Saturday Night Theatre. Theatre - Writer Turning to full time writing, he produced his well-received stage play ‘Party to the Divorce’ at the Thorndike Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe. Author His recent autobiographical book, ‘A Botcher in France’, published by Book Guild, is a humorous account of his experiences in South West France. It was chosen as ‘Book of the Month’ on the ‘French Living’ Website in summer, 2008. Film Scripts in progress His recently completed film script entitled ‘Inheritance’, is a dark thriller based on the drug underworld. Latest in-progress projects are a film script, based on the Paris Commune of 1871, ‘In Freedom’s Name’, and a humorous book , ‘Fred’s Gospel’, a modern-day morality tale. (Its opening pages are shown under ‘Vignettes’, on the website menu.) He is married to Karal Gardner, whom he met at Granada Television when they both appeared in ‘The Younger Generation’. His daughter, Emma, actress and artist, provided the illustrations for his book, ’A Botcher in France’ and acted in his play, ‘Party to the Divorce’ at the Edinburgh Fringe. His son, Marc, studied Information Technology and regularly solves his father’s computer problems. He works for an Insurance Underwriting Company. |
